Chukars Grounded by Thunderbirds, Take Victory Over Clippers
[Tukwila, WA] - The Treasure Valley Community College Women's Soccer team made the trip to the NWAC Friendlies on August 20th and 21st. The afternoon of the 20th, TVCC took the field against Highline College. Highline suspended their 2023 season to allow their new head coach time to recruit a full roster going into the 2024 season. In the matchup, the Chukars found themselves trailing at the half. The Thunderbirds had a 3-0 lead at intermission. Starting goalkeeper, freshman Araceli Maestas recorded 10 saves. Freshman Ashlyn Webb defended the goal during the second half, and she was able to save three balls. Allie Hurst, Jayden Mireles, Ranea Orosco, Madison Hibdon, Elizabeth Phillips, and Andrea Jacuinde each managed one shot on goal, but none were able to find the back of the net. The Chukars lost to the Thunderbirds, 4-0. 
 
A quick turnaround for the Chukars saw them playing the first game of the day on August 21st, taking on the South Puget Sound Community College Clippers. During the 2023 season, the Clippers ended their season with a record of 0-11-1. Allie Hurst got the Chukars going with an unassisted goal in the 11th minute, followed by a Hurst-assisted goal in the 18th minute, scored by Jada Danielle Gonzales. Just before the half, the Chukars gave up their only goal against, scored in the 36th minute. Giong into the half, the Chukars held a 2-1 lead over the Clippers. Hurst made the stat sheet for a third time as she scored her second unassisted goal of the game in the 74th minute. Mariaya Mireles put the finishing touches on the game, scoring her first goal of the season in the 81st minute, leading to a 4-1 Chukar victory. Araceli Maestas recorded three saves as the goalkeeper for the entire Chukar win. 
 
The Chukars have over two weeks off before their next matchup, welcoming back former TVCC student athletes on Saturday, September 7th for the women's soccer alumni game. The contest is scheduled for 12pm (MST). This is the final pre-season game for the Chukars before East Region play starts.
