Women's Basketball Earns Two Road Victories
[Pendleton, OR / Spokane, WA] - Treasure Valley Community College Women's Basketball improved their East Region record to 5-1 after two road wins last week. On Wednesday, the Chukars made the trip west to Pendleton, OR to take on the Timberwolves from Blue Mountain Community College. A fast start for the Chukars put them up 30-12 after just 10 minutes of play. Sophia Legate scored 13 points in the first quarter. Outdoing her previous quarter, Legate then put in 14 more points to add to the Chukar lead heading into intermission, 58-23. The Timberwolves made a few halftime adjustments, but it was not enough to earn the come-from-behind victory. TVCC outdid BMCC, 96-59. Legate led the scoring efforts for the Chukars with 29 points. Ava Cuff came one rebound shy of a double-double, finishing with 14 points and nine rebounds. Ashten Moore scored 11, followed by Maggie Sharp with 10 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds. 
 
The second road trip of the week sent Treasure Valley north to face the Sasquatch from Spokane, WA. In what felt like a back-and-forth battle in the first half, the Chukars went into halftime with an eight-point advantage. In the third quarter, Cuff put in 12 points to help TVCC tally 27 total points, increasing their lead to 21 over the Sasquatch. Lucy Richards led the Chukar scoring in the final period, going 3-5 from the field to score seven points. The final score read 87-63 in another strong victory for TVCC. Cuff finished with 23 points, while grabbing seven rebounds. Legate posted an impressive double-double, totaling 19 points and 12 rebounds. Balanced scoring from Sharp saw her put up 17 points on an effective 7-11 from the field, while also dishing out seven assists. Zoe Archibald also tallied seven assists. The Chukars finished with 28 assists as a team, which is a season high. 
 
Treasure Valley, recently voted the #7 ranked team in the latest NWAC Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, will enjoy the bye on Wednesday before welcoming the Knights from Wenatchee Valley College on Saturday, February 1st. The Chukars, who sit 15-5 overall and 5-1 in the East Region, are currently T-2nd in the East with the Big Bend Vikings. Wenatchee Valley will come into Saturday's contest with a 9-8 overall record, and 2-4 in the East Region. The Knights are T-4th in the region with four other teams.
