Women's Basketball Defeated by Warriors, Earn Victory Over Yaks
[Ontario, OR] - The Treasure Valley Community College Women's Basketball team, currently ranked #5 in the Women's Basketball Coaches' Poll, hosted the #4 ranked Walla Walla Warriors on Wednesday last week. The Chukars have not defeated the Warriors since February 17th, 2020. The Chukars found the scoreboard first, pulling out a seven-point lead after the first quarter. Lucy Richards went 3-4 from the field to score seven points in the first quarter for the Chukars. A slower second quarter only saw 12 points added to the scoreboard for TVCC, but they still held a one-point lead over the visiting Warriors heading into intermission. Seven points from Lilly Mallory in the third quarter extended the Chukar lead back to seven with 10 minutes remaining. In a fourth quarter that took just over 30 minutes to complete, the Warriors were able to edge out a victory over Treasure Valley, 71-70. Sophia Legate and Ava Cuff posted 15 points each for the Chukars, while Lucy Richards and Lilly Mallory each finished with 12 points. Maggie Sharp finished with 10 points.

Wanting to bounce back after the heartbreaker from Wednesday, Treasure Valley prepared for the Yaks from Yakima Valley to come to Ontario. The Chukars were able to find their stride again, coming out of the first quarter with a 19-10 lead over the Yaks. Legate contributed nine points in the first quarter, going 3-7 from 3pt range. The second quarter resulted with the TVCC lead extending to 13 points. Continuing to pour it on, Treasure Valley nearly doubled the lead after three quarters of play, thanks to eight points from Cuff to extend the margin to 25 points. Despite losing the scoring battle in the final quarter, the Chukars put themselves back in the victory column with a 67-52 win over the Yaks. Legate led all scorers with 19 points, followed by 14 points from Cuff. Richards made an impact all over the box score, as she put up 10 points, grabbed seven rebounds, dished out five assists, blocked four shots, and had three steals.

Treasure Valley, with an overall record of 13-5, and an East Region record of 3-1, sits T-2nd with Big Bend in the region standings. Hitting the road twice this week, TVCC will take on the Timberwolves of Blue Mountain on Wednesday, and the Sasquatch of Spokane on Saturday.
