Chukar Basketball Defends the Home Court, Sinking the Vikings

[Ontario, OR] - The Treasure Valley Community College women's basketball team hosted the Big Bend Community College Vikings on Saturday afternoon, with both teams winning their first NWAC East Region games earlier in the week. The Chukars got off to a slow start, finding themselves down by one point after 10 minutes, and down six points after 20 minutes.
After halftime adjustments, TVCC was able to match their first half point total in the 3rd quarter, putting up 27 points. Eleven of those points came from Sophia Legate, as the Chukars shrunk the deficit to four points. Although the Treasure Valley defense gave up 18 Big Bend points in the 4th quarter, the TVCC offense torched the nets, scoring 32 points as a team, including 13 points from Lilly Mallory, who went 3-4 from downtown in the final period. The home team shot a blistering 50% from 3pt range and 47.8% from the field to secure the 86-76 victory.
Lucy Richards led all scorers with 20 points on 7-14 shooting, including 3-5 from behind the arc. Richards also snatched eight rebounds. Lilly Mallory finished with 18 points, going 7-9 from the field and 4-6 from downtown. Legate and Ava Cuff each posted 17 points.
After 16 games, Sophia Legate is currently 4th in the NWAC for scoring average, sitting at 17.8 points per game. Maggie Sharp is 2nd in the NWAC for assists per game, averaging 5.7 per contest. Zoe Archibald is not far behind Sharp, as she averages 5.4 assists per game, which is 5th in the league.
The Chukars are now 12-4 overall and 2-0 in the East Region. With two home games this week, the Chukars will face the Walla Walla Warriors (12-4, 2-0) on Wednesday at 5:00pm, and the Yakima Valley Yaks (7-8, 2-0) on Saturday at 2:00pm. Notably, Yakima Valley will host Columbia Basin (7-6, 0-2) on Wednesday.
