Chukar Women Head into Christmas Break After Winning 10 in a Row

[Coos Bay, OR] – The Treasure Valley Community College women's basketball team competed at the NWAC Crossover hosted by Southwestern Oregon Community College on December 13th-15th, 2024. The Chukars come home as the tournament champions, winning all three of their contests. On Friday, the Chukars defeated the host school SWOCC, 80-54. Ava Cuff led the scoring effort for TVCC, posting 19 points on 8-14 shooting. Lilly Mallory brought energy and offensive efficiency off the bench, making three shots from beyond the arc, and a perfect 3-3 from the free throw line to total 14 points. Maggie Sharp put up 12 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.

On the second day of the tournament, the Chukars faced the Thunderbirds from Highline College. Leading the offense for Treasure Valley was Sophia Legate, who finished with 25 points. Lucy Richards contributed to the win with her first double-double of the season, scoring 15 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. She also recorded four blocks. Zoe Archibald was the final double-digit scorer for TVCC, as she finished 6-9 from the field, and knocked down two free throws to total 14 points. Maggie Sharp grabbed 10 rebounds and dished out eight assists, while leading the team in steals with four. TVCC earned victory over Highline with a final score of 80-51.

On the final day of NWAC Crossover weekend, TVCC faced off against Olympic College, who entered the game on a five-game winning streak. It was a fast-paced game, that saw a total of 16 lead changes. Despite 26 turnovers as a team, and finding themselves down by 12 points late in the 3rd quarter, the Chukars found a way to battle back into the game and control scoring efforts in the final period. The Chukars completed the weekend sweep, beating Olympic 84-81. Leading both teams in scoring was Sophia Legate, who finished with a 32-point, 11-rebound double-double. Ava Cuff was two rebounds shy of her own double-double, as she put up 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while also being perfect form the free throw line in her six attempts. Zoe Archibald sank key baskets in the final moments, as she scored 13 points while leading the team with four steals. Lilly Mallory, who knocked down back-to-back free throws with two seconds left to extend the Chukar lead to three points, finished with 11 points and went a perfect 6-6 from the charity stripe. Free throw shooting was nearly flawless for TVCC, as they finished 17-18 as a team.

The weekend wraps up the 2024 calendar season for the women, who started the year with three losses, and have improved their overall record to 10-3. Nearly halfway through the season, the Chukars find themselves towards the top in numerous league-wide statistical categories, both as a team and with individuals. Sophia Legate currently sits 5th in the NWAC with 18.9 points per game. Maggie Sharp sits 2nd in assists per game, dishing out 5.7 on average. Zoe Archibald is T-7th in assists per game with 4.3. As a team, Treasure Valley averages 21.8 assists per game, which leads the NWAC. TVCC is 3rd in the NWAC in both steals per game (12.6) and blocks per game (3.9). The Chukars are averaging 78.2 points per game, which is currently 4th best league-wide.

Treasure Valley will return to the court in 2025 as they welcome NJCAA #4 ranked College of Southern Idaho on Thursday, January 2nd at 5:00pm.
