Legate Named First Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week of the 2024-25 Season
[Vancouver, WA] - The Northwest Athletic Conference announced the first winter sport Competitive Athletics Athlete of the Week on Wednesday afternoon. For the week of November 11-17th, the Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week was awarded to sophomore Sophia Legate out of Salt Lake City, UT. Sophia helped the Chukars go 2-1 over the weekend at the Lane Titan Classic in Eugene, OR. Legate averaged 23.7 points to go along with 5.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, 1.7 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. She scored 23 points in the first game against the defending back-to-back NWAC Champions, Lane Titans, and then dropped 32 points against Southwestern Oregon on Sunday. 30 of her 32 points on Sunday were from 3-point range, as she knocked down 10 shots from beyond the arc. 10 made 3-point field goals in a single game ties the school record. Sophia re-wrote the record books during the 2023-24 season, which she broke the previous record of nine in a single game, as she sank 10 from downtown against Spokane on February 3rd, 2024. This is her second career game with 10 made 3-pointers.

The Chukar women will defend their home court for the first time of the 2024-25 season on Friday, November 22nd against the Pierce College Raiders. Tipoff will begin at 5:00pm (MST), with the Chukar men to follow.
