Women’s Basketball Finishes 2-1 at Lane Titan Classic

[Eugene, OR] – Treasure Valley Community College Women's Basketball aimed to put themselves in the "W" column on NWAC Basketball Opening Weekend, beginning on November 15th. The Chukars participated in the Central Wyoming College Rustler Classic on November 8th and 9th, but were unable to bring home a victory. On Friday, the Chukars played the back-to-back NWAC Champion Lane Titans. The Titans ended the Chukars' season during the 2023-24 postseason run in the Sweet 16. Friday's contest resulted in a defeat of TVCC, 88-62. Sophia Legate finished with 23 points on 8-15 shooting, including 5-9 from beyond the arc. Lucy Richards also finished in double figure scoring, putting up 13 points. Madison Wigen led the Chukars in rebounds with 5.

Looking for the first victory of the season, the Chukars faced the Roadrunners of Linn-Benton on Saturday afternoon. While the game was a close one going into intermission, the Chukars lit up the scoreboard in the 3rd quarter, scoring 24 of their 72 total points. TVCC earned their first win of the season, 72-47 over LBCC. Legate led in scoring with 16 points and 8 rebounds, followed by Richards with 14 points. Lilly Mallory sank 11 points, and Ava Cuff put up 10 points. The Chukar guards led the way rebounding, including Maggie Sharp with 8, Zoe Archibald with 7, and Grace Hogan with 6.

Wrapping up the weekend with a Sunday morning matchup, the Chukars battled the Lakers from Southwestern Oregon Community College. Treasure Valley got off to a hot start, which never fizzled out. The Chukars earned their second consecutive victory, 108-54 over the Lakers. Legate put in 10 shots from three-point range, which ties the school record (held by Legate) for most in a single game. The sophomore finished with 32 points. Freshmen Ava Cuff and Lilly Mallory each contributed 14 points. Ashten Moore had an effective day, including a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double in 13 minutes off the bench. Maggie Sharp finished with 12 points on a perfect 5-5 shooting, also dishing out a game high 6 assists. Grace Hogan and Cuff each had 5 assists. As a team, the Chukars finished with 11 turnovers, a season low, and tied their season high with 20 steals. The team shot 94% from the charity stripe (Cuff going 8-8).

Next up on the schedule for TVCC is their first home contest of the season on Friday, November 22nd. The Pierce College Raiders will make the trip to Ontario for a 5:00pm (MST) tip.
