TVCC Women Finish 2-1 at NWAC Crossover
[Ontario, OR] - Treasure Valley Community College's women's basketball team hosted the NWAC basketball crossover tournament on December 15th-17th. They welcomed Umpqua Community College, Skagit Valley Community College, and Centralia College to Ontario. On Friday night, the Chukars began with the #3 ranked Umpqua RiverHawks, as of the latest NWAC Women's Basketball Coaches Poll. A hot start quickly cooled off, and the Chukars were unable to hit the shots to stay on top. Umpqua took the game, 83-61. Sophia Legate led all scorers with 22 points, hitting six three-pointers. Maggie Sharp chipped in 11 points for TVCC.
On Saturday, the Chukars then faced the Cardinals of Skagit Valley, who were receiving votes (RV) in the latest NWAC Women's Basketball Coaches Poll. The Chukars shut down the Cardinals, only allowing 5 points in the second quarter, and they soared to a 79-53 victory. Legate led all scorers with 16 points, where Sharp kicked in 15 points and 6 steals, followed by Danielle Steed with 11 points, and Zoe Archibald with 10 points.
On the final day, the Chukars played the Centralia College Trailblazers. Putting up 31 points in the second quarter helped lead the Chukars to a victory to end the weekend, 84-49. Legate finished with 22 points on 5-11 shooting from 3pt, while McKell Harper finished with 15 points and 6 rebounds, and Havyn Brown finished with 14 points. The team finished with 17 steals in the game.
TVCC women are currently 5-6 on the season, with their next game coming on January 2nd, 2024 at the College of Southern Idaho. Then, they will begin East Region play at Spokane on January 6th.
