Chukars Wrap Up Season After Competitive Final Stretch
Treasure Valley Community College softball brought its 2026 season to a close last week after splitting doubleheaders with Spokane Community College and Big Bend Community College. The Chukars finished the season 22-25 overall and 14-14 in East Region play. Although Treasure Valley placed fourth in the East, the NWAC softball postseason is determined by RPI rankings, and the Chukars finished 14th overall, just outside the top-12 cutoff for postseason qualification.
Against Spokane, the Chukars showed resilience and offensive firepower despite dropping both contests. In a high-scoring 14-12 battle, Treasure Valley nearly erased an early six-run deficit behind a dominant performance from Kalae Thompson, who blasted multiple home runs and drove in seven RBIs. Charyne Koko, Trisha Langston, and Rylee Nelson also contributed offensively as the Chukars mounted a comeback before Spokane pulled away late. In the second matchup, Treasure Valley fell 6-1 as Spokane pitcher Cassy Seifert held the Chukars to one hit. Jessica Broadbent recorded the team's lone hit, while Shea Richardson pitched a complete game in the circle. Thompson scored Treasure Valley's only run, and Langston added a stolen base.
The Chukars split their final doubleheader of the season against Big Bend. Treasure Valley earned a dramatic 10-9 victory in the opener after erupting for seven runs in the fourth inning. Kynzee Dixon and Kellie Malan each drove in two runs, while Langston led the offense with three hits. Richardson secured the win in relief after Malan struck out six batters through five innings. In the finale, Treasure Valley fell 15-12 despite another explosive offensive performance. Jessica Broadbent powered the offense with two home runs and four RBIs, while Kaydence Chournos added a home run of her own. Dixon continued her strong weekend with two doubles and two RBIs in the loss.
Despite falling short of postseason play, the Chukars accomplished a great deal throughout the season while battling through numerous injuries. Jessica Broadbent led the Treasure Valley offense with 69 RBIs, the fifth-best mark in the NWAC. Kalae Thompson finished the year with 12 home runs, tied for 10th in the conference, while Trisha Langston paced the team with 69 hits, ranking 13th in the NWAC. Langston also finished among the conference leaders in stolen bases with 23, placing her in the top five. In the circle, Shea Richardson recorded 74 strikeouts, finishing among the top 20 pitchers in the NWAC. Though their season came to an end just short of the postseason, the Chukars remained competitive throughout the year and demonstrated resilience in the face of adversity.
