Treasure Valley Battles Lower Columbia in NWAC Battle
[Longview, WA] - Treasure Valley Community College opened conference play with a pair of tough contests against Lower Columbia College, falling 8-0 in both matchups despite strong individual efforts and competitive moments throughout the series.
In the first game, the Chukars struggled to find their rhythm offensively against Lower Columbia's Zoey Hughes, who struck out 11 over five innings. Treasure Valley was limited to just one hit — a double off the bat of Rylee Nelson — but continued to compete at the plate throughout the contest.
Kellie Malan got the start in the circle, pitching four innings and facing 25 batters. She recorded three strikeouts while working through traffic on the bases and showing resilience in a challenging outing. Defensively, the Chukars battled through pressure situations, though a pair of errors allowed Lower Columbia to extend innings and capitalize on scoring opportunities.
The second game proved equally challenging as Lower Columbia's Ava Eib delivered a dominant performance in the circle, holding Treasure Valley to just one hit across six innings while also contributing offensively with a two-run home run and three RBIs. Center fielder Trisha Langston recorded the lone hit for the Chukars, and McKenzie Dean showed discipline at the plate, drawing one of the team's few walks in the game.
Shea Richardson pitched 5 1/3 innings in the second matchup, facing 32 batters and working through a heavy offensive push from the Red Devils lineup. Despite the final score, Richardson continued to compete pitch by pitch against a lineup that capitalized on key hits, including multiple home runs.
While the results were not what the Chukars hoped for, the team continues to build early in conference play. With standout efforts in the circle and flashes of offensive potential, Treasure Valley looks to regroup and carry the lessons from this series into the remainder of the season.
