Chukar Track and Field Competes at the Nighthawks Preview
[Nampa, ID] - The Chukars Men's and Women's Track and Field team competed in their first outdoor meet of the 2025 season at NNU on Saturday, March 15th. The Chukars showed up with 24 athletes in 16 different events. Head Coach Darren Van Hofwegen shared "it is exciting to see a variety of different events being represented by TVCC that span from sprinting, jumping, relays, distance, throws, and hurdles".

On the women's side, Ashten Moore competed in the long jump (4.74m) and triple jump (9.61m). Goya Lemus competed in 800m and 1500m, with final times of 2:43.38 and 5:36.17. Addison Kennedy placed top 10 in the shot put with a throw of 10.23m. "All of these marks are knocking on the door of NWAC qualifications", mentioned Coach DVH. Selena Exon punched her ticket to NWACs with a qualifying mark of 1.42m in the high jump.

On the men's side, Ethan Mulvaney finished 2nd in triple jump (12.81m) and 5th overall in NWAC standings. Claytin Harper finished 4th in the long jump with a distance of 6.18m. The 4x100m relay team ran an opening time that narrowly missed NWAC qualifications in the first meet. As for NWAC qualifying marks, Calvin Britton had a breakout day by winning the 400m hurdles (54.66) and placing 2nd in the 110m hurdles (14.86). Britton's 110mH time is the top ranked NWAC time and his 400mH time is ranked 2nd in the NWAC. Adrian Vega had an impressive throw in shot put (14.14m) which placed him 6th at the NNU meet and 2nd overall in the NWAC. While this throw is not an all-time school record, which was set in 1970, it is the top ranked throw in recent years from many TVCC athletes, according to Athletic.net.

When asked about the performance of his student-athletes, Coach DVH reported, "we are excited to see how this year started out and are excited to see the athletes grow and improve while representing the college in a positive manner. This week our athletes will be volunteering their time to run the field events at Ontario High School's Track Meet. These efforts are incredibly valuable as it allows the high school coaches to coach their athletes rather than running a field event. We are appreciative of our athletes' generous efforts with their time".

The Chukars will be back in action on Friday, April 4th at the Whitworth Peace Invitational in Spokane, WA.
