Castro Joining Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

Kyler Castro is in his first year at Treasure Valley Community College as an assistant coach for the men's basketball program. He spent the previous two years coaching at his alma mater, Borah High School, as the varsity assistant coach. In his second year, he helped his team improve by 10 wins and led the Lions to the state tournament.

Before becoming a coach, Castro played at Borah High School in Boise, Idaho, from 2016 to 2019. He was a three-year varsity starter for the Lions, with a record of 59-19. In his senior year, he helped lead his team to a regular-season title, a district title, and a state championship, capping off one of the best seasons in program history. During the 2018-19 season, he received all-conference honors for the 5A SIC. He also played for the AAU program "Hoop Dreams," which was coached by the legendary Roberto Bergesen, now the assistant coach at Boise State University.

After graduating from Borah High School, Coach Castro went on to play at Treasure Valley Community College. He was born in Ontario, Oregon, in 1999 and lived there until 2014, when he moved to Boise, Idaho. His parents, Jerry and Katie Castro, were both born and raised in Ontario. Castro has one sibling, Hendrix Castro, who is a star football and basketball player for Borah High School as a sophomore.

Coach Holbrook stated, "The program got a lot better today by adding another high-character, hard-working person. I got lucky to find Coach Castro, and I am excited for him to get his opportunity at the collegiate level. His family being from here makes it that much more special for him. I am excited to see the impact he makes on the program."

Coach Castro had this to say about joining the staff at Treasure Valley: "It was a no-brainer coming back home to Ontario to coach at the next level here at TVCC. Coach Holbrook is building something really special here, and I am honored to be a part of it. This school has all the tools to be a special place, and I believe we can get it there. Go Chukars!"
