Chukar Men Host Plaza Inn Tipoff Tournament, Finish 2-1
[Ontario, OR] – With a new leader at the helm, the Chukar Men's Basketball team hosted Multnomah University JV, Grays Harbor College, and Southwestern Oregon Community College for the NWAC Basketball Opening Weekend on November 15th-17th. Taking on Multnomah JV on Friday, first year head coach Eric Holbrook and his squad put up 117 points in the season opener, only giving up 56 to the opponent. Kenton Ferguson put up a game high 19 points off the bench, going 4-9 from beyond the arc. Kirath Makhar also knocked down four from three-point range, finishing with 16 points. Jeremiah Williams and DeCarlo Browne each posted 15 points, and Prince Malonge put up his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
Heading into day two with a victory the previous night, the Chukars played the Grays Harbor College Chokers. Four players for the home team finished in double figures in the scoring column, including Makhar with 18, Williams with 13, Ferguson with 12, and Gabe Britton with 10. Williams also grabbed a team high 8 rebounds in the 83-63 victory over the Chokers. TVCC forced GHC into 22 turnovers as a team, and held them to 21% shooting from three point range.
Sunday was a different story for TVCC, as they competed against Southwestern Oregon. The Lakers hot shooting from the field, at 55%, proved to be too much for TVCC, who lost the matchup 103-71. Makhar finished with a game high 24 points on 8-16 shooting. The Chukars shot 35% from the field as a group.
The Chukars have an opportunity to bounce back from their first loss of the season as they host the Pierce College Raiders on Friday, November 22nd for a 7:00pm (MST) tipoff.
