Chukars Split Series with Hawks
[Pasco, WA] - Treasure Valley Community College delivered a strong showing in one contest but struggled to find consistency in another as they faced Columbia Basin College in a pair of games.
The Chukars secured a narrow 3–2 victory in a tightly contested matchup, using a decisive ninth inning to pull ahead. Brayden Ollar led the offensive effort with an impressive 4-for-5 performance, scoring two runs and setting the tone at the plate. Colt Durham continued to be a key contributor, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Boyd Kay added another RBI to help lift Treasure Valley to the win.
On the mound, Grayson Paul turned in a dominant outing, pitching eight innings while allowing just one earned run on five hits. He struck out three batters and walked only one, effectively limiting Columbia Basin's offensive opportunities. Gabe Schwenken closed out the game with a scoreless ninth inning, facing four batters to secure the victory.
In contrast, Treasure Valley faced a tougher challenge in an 8–1 loss to Columbia Basin on Wednesday. The Chukars recorded eight hits but were unable to capitalize, leaving multiple runners on base throughout the game. Durham provided the lone highlight offensively, going 2-for-3 and driving in the team's only run with a double in the fifth inning.
Hudson Meyer led the team with three hits in four at-bats, consistently applying pressure to Columbia Basin's defense. Cam Ueland and Kade Bailey each added a hit, with Bailey also contributing a stolen base to spark the team's baserunning efforts.
Treasure Valley relied on a deep pitching rotation in the loss, using seven pitchers over nine innings. Coltan Spagnuolo started the game, allowing two runs over two innings. Marco Aviles and Gabe Tanner each delivered two scoreless innings in relief, combining for five strikeouts and helping to keep the game within reach early. However, Columbia Basin pulled away late, with Luke Colson surrendering three runs in the final inning to seal the outcome.
Despite the mixed results, several Chukars stood out across both games. Ollar's standout performance at the plate highlighted the team's offensive potential, while Durham remained a consistent presence, contributing key hits and RBIs. Meyer's ability to generate offense and Bailey's speed on the basepaths added further positives, while Aviles' strong relief outing demonstrated depth on the pitching staff.
Treasure Valley will look to build on its strong individual performances while improving its ability to convert scoring opportunities as they prepare for upcoming games.
