Chukar Baseball Splits Against CBC

[Ontario, OR] - In a warm, weekday home matchup, the Chukar baseball team beat the visiting Columbia Basin Hawks in game one by a score of 8-3, and lost game two by a score of 9-5.

The Chuks were trailing this ball game up until the 5th inning, where they scored 5 runs, making the score 6-2. Defensively, the Chuks kept the Hawks from scoring in the last three innings. Pitcher Cory Apker was given the win on the mound for the Chuks. Apker had 5 strikeouts and just one earned run on the day. TVCC had 14 hits in the first game, with Parker Bleggi, Drew Deal, Andrew Sharp, Cody Higgins, Joey Raker, and Ace Felise all with two each.

As for game two, the Chuks had 4 errors and just 10 hits that kept them from sweeping in this series against the Hawks. The Chuks tied the ball game in the bottom of the sixth inning 2-2 but gave up a 7 run seventh-inning by CBC that was too detrimental to come back from. Once again, Andrew Sharp, Joey Raker, and Cody Higgins had two hits apiece. Another highlight of the game came off the bat of Austin Hansen's two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth inning. Brett Allen led the way for the Chuks on the mound in game two, where he posted 8 strikeouts and one earned run.

The Chuks will again take on Columbia Basin Saturday, April 2nd. This time, the double-header will be on the road in Pasco, WA. The Chuks sit at 1-1 in East conference play, 6-14 overall.
