Chukar Runner Breaks Decades Old School Record

Chukar Runner Breaks Decades Old School Record
[Lewiston, ID] - The TVCC Chukars Cross Country team competed at the LC State Invitational in Lewiston, ID, amidst a large field featuring teams from D1, D2, NAIA schools, and community colleges. The event provided a challenging platform for the Chukars, allowing them to compete alongside prestigious teams such as Gonzaga, University of Idaho, University of Montana, and Washington State.

Brayden Lamanna delivered an outstanding performance, breaking the Chukar record for the 8k distance not just once, but twice in back-to-back races. Lamanna completed the 8k in 24:51.1, averaging a 5-minute mile flat. His time was the fastest among all Chukar runners, earning him 22nd place in only his third attempt at the distance.

The LC State Invitational marked a significant milestone for Lamanna, a former NWAC athlete of the week, as he surpassed a school record set in the 1980s. "Breaking a school record from the '80s is always something special," noted Head Coach Ryan Jaggi. "Brayden has worked his tail off all summer to come in and make an impact for our team and he's done just that. For a freshman to come in and run sub-25 in the 8k is an impressive feat, but to do it week in and out and shatter a school record in the process is truly exciting for what is to come from this young man."

The TVCC Chukars demonstrated resilience and competitiveness in a field laden with higher-level collegiate teams, signaling their capability and readiness to challenge regardless of classification.
