Brayden was interviewed following the announcement of his award.
As a new athlete at Treasure Valley Community College, it's been an exciting transition. I came from a smaller high school, and I was really drawn to TVCC because of its size and the potential to make an impact. The coaches and the welcoming atmosphere sealed the deal for me. Starting college and joining a new team has been a thrill. We've been practicing for a few weeks, and I'm eager to see how we progress throughout the season. The early days have been promising, and I'm looking forward to contributing to the team's success.
Dedication and Hard Work
To prepare for the shift from high school to college athletics, I focused on staying consistent with my training. Being in the area a month before school started was beneficial, helping me acclimatize to new surroundings and routines. During the offseason, I focused on daily practice, injury prevention, nutrition, and hydration. The summer heat was a challenge, but I made sure to get my workouts early to avoid it. It was all about dedication and hard work.
Balancing Academics and Athletics
Balancing academics with my sport is all about strategic planning. With most of my classes being online, I can create a schedule that fits around my training and practice. Setting aside study time and maintaining a consistent sleep schedule are crucial strategies to ensure I stay on top of both my academic and athletic responsibilities. Integrating into the team culture is a priority for me. I'm committed to doing my part, showing up every day, and working hard. It's also about getting to know my teammates, learning from them, and understanding what makes us successful as a team.
Aspirations for the Tuture
I aspire to transfer to a four-year school after my time at TVCC. Running is not just a sport for me; it's a personal goal to stay fit and healthy. The support from my coaches, teammates, and campus community will play a significant role in achieving my goals. I'm excited to start classes, make connections, and see where this journey takes me. College experience is more than just athletics; it's about shaping my future career and personal goals. I'm eager to embrace this new chapter and make the most of every opportunity that comes my way.
