Bio
In the Fall of 2016, Drew Pearson took over as Head Rodeo Coach at Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario Oregon. Pearson has been selected as the Northwest Region Coach of the Year 5 times and was Recognized as the NIRA’s National Coach of the Year in 2022. The TVCC Rodeo Program is a vital part of the college’s Agriculture Department. The team participates in the Northwest Region of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association. Pearson has been involved in rodeo the majority of his life. He started out riding bulls but after breaking his leg at a rodeo he decided that fighting bulls would be more profitable. He fought bulls for 30 years and served on the Idaho Cowboys Association Rodeo Board for 11 years and 4 of which he was the President.
Pearson worked for a stock contractor named Deward Gill who, that taught him that you have to know both ends of the arena to put on a great rodeo. By understanding both ends of the arena, he can look at recruiting both rough stock kids and timed event kids. The program offers tuition waivers to the top competitors and has a long running history of sending men and women to the College National Finals Rodeo.
The TVCC Rodeo Team practices Monday thru Friday. Practice calves, steers and goats are provided along with opportunity to ride practice pen bulls and broncs. Several other practice tools are available to work on technique and timing on your own, including a Tuff Goat, Tuff Calf, SMARTY and a Bucking Machine. Facilities available to use include stalls, warm-up arena, large arena and a 220 x 90 ft indoor arena with Priefert Chutes.
Along with Pearson, he has a great team to assist him. Assistant Men’s Coach, Matt Nauman, Women’s Coach Rylee Hansen and Assistant Women’s Coach Makenly Davis help with practices.
A few things that set the Chukar Rodeo Program apart from other schools, is the endless opportunities to practice, if you’re willing to put in the work, we are willing to be at the arena every day to help you succeed. We not only want to see the students succeed in rodeo but academically, as well as in life. It’s like a big family, Pearson’s wife and kids are at the arena helping, the women’s coaches and assistant men’s coach and his family help.
