TVCC Men's Basketball Headed to NWAC Tournament
[Ontario, OR] - On Wednesday, February 28th, the Treasure Valley Community College women's and men's basketball teams secured their place for the upcoming NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament held in Pasco, WA.
On the women's side, the Chukars came into the final NWAC East Region game of the season tied for fourth place with the visiting Blue Mountain Timberwolves. The winner of the matchup would advance to the NWAC Tournament taking place in early March. Thanks to 16-point games from sophomores McKell Harper and Havyn Brown, the Chukars earned the victory, 64-48 over the Timberwolves. This is the first time the Chukar Women's Basketball team has been to the NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament since the 2016-2017 season.
For the Treasure Valley Community College Men's Basketball team, they came into the matchup against Blue Mountain as the NWAC Eastern Region Champions for the first time since the 2013-2014 season. A 26-point game from freshman Yel Deeng helped secure the Chukars an 83-61 win, capping off a 13 win-1 loss Eastern Region record. This will be the first trip to the NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament since the 2019-2020 season, before it was cancelled due to COVID-19.
Going into the tournament, the Chukar Men's Basketball team will be the East Region #1 seed, where they will face off against the West Region #4 seed on Thursday, March 7th at 8:00 pm (PST). The Chukar Women's Basketball team will be the East Region #4 seed, where they will play the South Region #1 seed on Saturday, March 9th at 8:00 pm (PST).
The NWAC Basketball Championship Tournament first and second rounds will be held at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, WA from March 6th-10th, and the final two rounds will be held March 16th and 17th. The tournament is single-elimination.
