Chukar Men Go 2-1 at Crossover, Sitting 8-4 Into Christmas Break
[Gresham, OR] - The Treasure Valley Community College Men's Basketball team headed to Gresham, OR for the Mt. Hood Community College men's basketball crossover tournament on December 15th-17th. Game one had the Chukars facing the #1 Skagit Valley Cardinals, according to the latest NWAC Men's Basketball Coaches Poll released on December 12th. In the same poll, the Chukars sat in the #7 ranked position. Skagit Valley shot a blistering 54% from the 3pt line, making them difficult to slow down. The Cardinals took the win over the Chukars, 77-56. Trevon Cason led TVCC with 16 points.
In game two of the weekend, TVCC faced the host team Mt. Hood. A hot start had the Chukars leading at half, but the Saints stormed back to force overtime, where TVCC came out on top, 93-89. Yel Deeng led the Chukars with 20 points and 12 rebounds, Ashraf Barsham chipped in 19 points and grabbed 12 boards, Prince Malonge added 12 points and 10 boards, while Cason finished with 19 points.
To end the weekend, Treasure Valley faced off against Pierce. The Chukars shot 60% from the field, helping them cruise to a 99-72 victory. Cason led all scorers with 29 points, followed by Deeng with 27 points. Alrek Greenhalgh added 15 points for TVCC, while Paul Ebanda grabbed 8 rebounds.
The Chukars currently sit 8-4 heading in the Christmas break. They will face off against Multnomah JV on Friday, December 29th, and then Colorado Northwestern Community College on December 30th, both games at home. They will then travel to the College of Southern Idaho on January 2nd, 2024, before kicking off NWAC East Region play at Spokane on January 6th.
