Women’s Basketball Upset Hopes Fall Short in Sweet 16

[Pasco, WA] – The Treasure Valley Community College Women's Basketball team ended their season at the NWAC Women's Basketball Championship Tournament in the Sweet 16. Ending the season with a record of 12-17, and East Region record of 7-7, the Chukars earned the East Region #4 seed going into the Sweet 16. This was the first time since the 2016-17 season that TVCC Women's Basketball earned a trip to the NWAC Championships, and only the third time in school history that they have made it to the tournament since joining the NWAC in 2002.

Matched up with the South Region #1 seed and defending NWAC Champions in the Lane Titans, the Chukars had a tough first-round matchup. The Chukars started basket-for-basket with the Titans, trailing by two points going into halftime. A high-action third quarter saw the Chukars trailing by four with 10 minutes remaining, but were unable to pull off the upset. The Titans took the victory, 59-49. The Chukars held Lane to their lowest scoring game of the season with 59 points, which was 22 points under their average. The Titans went on to win the NWAC Women's Basketball tournament for a second straight year. Rachel McKea blocked 9 shots, while the team had 12 total. Havyn Brown finished with 13 points for the Chukars.

Treasure Valley had one player named Second Team All-Region in freshman Sophia Legate. Legate averaged 13.2 points per game, shooting 31.6% from 3pt during her first season as a Chukar.
