Chukar Softball Hosts First Conference Games of the Season

[Ontario, OR] - The Chukar softball team finally started conference play against the North Idaho Cardinals at home on Friday, March 18th. In a doubleheader, the Chuks fell short both games by scores of 8-1 and 12-6.

In game one on Friday, sophomore pitcher Syndey Shober posted seven strikeouts and pitched a full seven innings. Offensively, Sydney Shober showed strength at the plate, earning two hits and one RBI. Gabby Lamoreaux also mounted two hits for the Chuks. In totals for game one, the Chuks had 6 hits, 3 strikeouts, and 2 left on base. NIC put up 10 hits and 8 total RBIs in this game.

As for game two, both the Chuks and Cardinals had 13 hits apiece. Shayla Cherry, Gabby Lamoreaux, Demry Wixom, and Emma Williams each had two hits. Sydney Shober took over at the mound and pitched four innings. Shober had four strikeouts through this time.

Hoping to bounce back on Saturday against Spokane, the Chuks were unable to secure the sweep against the Bigfoot but managed to split the series by scores of 5-4, and 13-11.

Game one went an extra-inning, but the Chuks' errors ultimately cost them the game. Syndey Shober once again was a valuable aspect on the mound, posting 9 strikeouts. Offensively, Demry Wixom had two hits and two RBIs in this game. Hailee Lamoreaux had two hits this game as well.

The Chuks' offense came through in game two. In this game, the Chuks had 5 home runs, with Sydney Shober and Demry Wixom each having one. Mauri Wade had 3 home run shots, including one grand slam. This was the second grand slam of her college career.

The Chuks are hoping to carry this momentum into their games this week, as they will be traveling to Twin Falls on Tuesday, March 22nd to take on a very strong CSI team (19-6). The Chukars will continue conference play on the road versus Wenatchee Valley (3-8 overall, 1-3 conference) and Yakima Valley (3-11 overall, 0-3 conference) Friday the 25th and Saturday the 26th. TVCC softball currently sits 2-10 overall and 1-3 in conference play.
