Chukar Volleyball Rolling into New Season

Chukar Volleyball Rolling into New Season

[Nampa, ID] - Treasure Valley Volleyball travelled to Nampa, ID to take on NCAA D2 Northwest Nazarene University on Wednesday in a pre-season scrimmage. Although pre-season scrimmages do not count towards the overall record, team stats, or individual stats, it was the first time this season the Chukars faced off against current collegiate players. On Friday, August 12th, the current Chukars faced off against former Chukar alumni in the annual Alumni Scrimmage.

While at NNU, the teams played all 5 sets to see as much game action as they could. While they were off to a slow start in set one, losing 12-25, TVCC rebounded in sets 2 and 3, with scores being 14-25 and 18-25, respectively. Sets 4 and 5 ended with NNU on top, 12-25 and 8-15. This was the first opportunity for new volleyball coaching staff Rylie Engelson and Nick Bogar to see rotations and combinations against another collegiate opponent. This was also the first college action for six of the fourteen current Chukar Volleyball student-athletes.

When asked about her team's performance, Head Coach Engelson reported:

"NNU was a great way to kick off our season. We played at a higher level and battled against a competitive, deciplined team. As a team, I thought we responded urgently to every next ball that we played. We saw some great leadership on the court from sophomore Macey Buescher and freshman Reesa Whitworth. We continued to be aggressive with our offense; Sage McDaniel was a great example as she was a known presence at the net, as well as the service line. We are eager to get back in the gym tomorrow and continue to grow and learn as a team."

The Chukars will host their first match of the season on Thursday, August 25th at 4:00 pm. NJCAA opponent College of Southern Idaho will be in town for a Chukar/Golden Eagle matchup. The match will begin at 4 pm. During the 2021-22 season, CSI went 16-12 on the season. They will play two matches before coming to Ontario to take on the Chukars.
