Treasure Valley Women's Tennis Finishes 2nd at NWAC Championships
[Yakima, WA] - The Treasure Valley Community College Women's Tennis team recently participated in the NWAC Tennis Championship Tournament on May 2nd and 3rd at the Yakima Tennis Club. Coming in as the No. 2 seed, TVCC faced the No. 3 seed Bellevue in the semi-finals on Friday, where the Chukars came out on top in a close 5-4 dual. The Chukars used a sweep of the doubles to start the day to propel them to victory, despite Bellevue winning four of six singles matches. No. 2 Reese Beyrouty and No. 6 Fabiola Perez won crucial singles matches for the Chukars to clinch the win. Beyrouty was undefeated on the day, pairing with Zavier Lake in the No. 1 doubles spot to defeat Bellevue's Bean Lowe and Shanna Chua 8-4.
On Saturday, the Chukars would face the overall No.1 seed Highline, where the Chukars were unable to secure the title, losing 5-4 to the Thunderbirds. The dual went down to the wire as Highline led 4-3 with two singles matches still finishing at No. 2 and No. 6. Highline's Caley Buchan and TVCC's Reese Beyrouty went into a tiebreaker scenario in the third set after each winning one of the first two. The two were tied 6-6, forcing the tiebreaker, which is played first to seven, but must win by two points. The tiebreaker went to extra points as well, where Highline came up with the 10-8 victory, sealing the title.
TVCC's Elena Henry was defeated by the eventual NWAC Baden Women's Tennis Player of the Year, Sophia Crosby, in straight sets 6-3, 6-1 in singles. Earlier in the day, Crosby and Buchan paired up to defeat Chukar due Beyrouty and Zavier Lake 8-3 in No. 1 doubles. Treasure Valley's Brenda Ramirez 6-2, 6-1 was beaten by Highline's No. 3 Anna Shved. Shved teamed up with Zanna Orvald in the No. 2 doubles match to defeat TVCC's Henry and Ramirez.
TVCC won singles matches at No. 4, 5 and 6 and doubles No. 3. Charlee Bennett took down Highline's Adriana Barbee 7-5, and 6-4. Lake defeated Jeslyn Berry 6-2, 6-3 at No. 5, and Fabiola Perez won a close match with Orvald at No. 6, winning 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, 6-3. Perez teamed up with Ogaly Juarez to win 8-5 at doubles No. 3.
