Cori Smith joins the Chukars as an assistant coach for 2020-21 after spending the past two seasons as the Utah State women’s basketball director of operations. In her role with the Aggies, Smith handled all day-to-day operations of the program, including team travel, scheduling, equipment, budget, community service, organizing film exchange and supervising two student managers. She organized the program’s first-ever alumni weekend celebrating 15 years since the program was reinstated. Additionally, when the number of countable coaches allowed her, she filled in on recruiting and evaluating players and was involved with practice and game planning.
Prior to Utah State, she spent the 2017-18 season as a graduate assistant coach at Seattle Pacific. In her role there, she coordinated multiple operations tasks for the team and implemented a system for tracking players’ efficiency ratings.
Before coaching collegiately, Smith was a high school basketball coach in the greater Seattle area while also working full-time in the mental health field.
Smith earned her bachelor’s degree in communications at Arizona, graduating in 2008. She completed her first master’s degree in counseling psychology at the Seattle School of Theology & Psychology in 2014, and a second master’s in intercollegiate athletic leadership at Washington in 2018. She lives in Boise, Idaho, with her wife, Jessie, and they have two golden doodles.
