Jansen Announces Multiple Standouts in his Inaugural Season
[Ontario, OR] - The recruiting season for Treasure Valley Community College's new head men's basketball coach was a successful one with multiple difference-makers throughout the depth of the roster. James Jansen, first-year head coach at TVCC was well-known around collegiate basketball on the West Coast for his recruiting efforts and ability to leave no rock unturned for talent.
The Chuks' return only 6 players from last years roster including Judah Ward, Gabe Howe, Josiah Seward, Kody DeLong, Ben Mcbride and Garret Long who led the team in rebounds at 5.3 per game while averaging 11.5 points per game.
First on the docket for is 6'5" Gavin Gordon. The incoming freshman out of Nampa, ID can play at the guard or forward spot and his toughness allows him to defend multiple positions on the floor. Gordon comes to TVCC out of the SIC conference, one of the best in Idaho, and was voted by coaches as one of the best out of Kuna.
Sharpshooter, Aidan Slater is the next incoming signee to the Chuks' men's basketball roster for this season. At 6'3" out of Tigard, OR, Slater brings a new meaning to the phrase 'knockdown shooter'.
"Aidan is one of the best shooters I've signed in 7 years of coaching collegiately," Jansen says, "His work ethic is unmatched and will allow us to expand our offense and space the floor with his range."
Out of Antelope, CA and Capital Christian is transfer guard, Trey Jones. Jones is someone that Coach Jansen has his eyes on for a while going back to his days coaching in California.
"Trey is the ultimate competitor," Jansen says, "He's a kid I've seen grow over the past five years. He's got great quickness and the ability to knock down shots, making him a tough matchup every night."
Hometown signee, Gavin Weisweaver will be joining the Chuks' this season. Weisweaver is out of Meridian, ID, and played previously at Linn- Benton CC where he has worked hard in the weight room to complement his outside shooting for the upcoming season.
Redshirt freshman, Jason Chambers joins the TVCC squad this year after a redshirt year at Lamar CC in Colorado. The 6'2" guard out of Peyton, CO whose length and size at the point guard spot gives Coach Jansen options when picking his lineups night in and night out.
"Jason is a kid at 6'2" with a 6'6" wingspan is going to give us good size at the point and is another solid ball handler that can handle pressure and make good decisions," Jansen says.
An incomer out of San Antonio, TX is freshman, Corey Morales who at 6'5" will give TVCC some shooting and athleticism out on the wing that will make opponents think twice before leaving him open from the outside.
Out of Ogden, UT, Kekoa Beard is a difference-maker that Coach Jansen is excited to see in a Chukar uniform this season.
"We are really excited to add Koa to this class," Jansen says. "He is a dynamic scorer with a great basketball IQ that will give us an added dimension this season."
The Chukar lineup will have some serious size this season with Malek Majak on the TVCC roster. Majak is a 6'8" swingman out of Glendale, AZ with a 7-foot wingspan that can stay with ball handlers on the perimeter and block and alter shots at the rim.
"Malek is a good athlete whose best basketball is ahead of him," Jansen says, "He will give us the ability to defend at a high level as a team."
A pair of incoming freshmen join TVCC from Idaho, Connor Nielsen out of Weston, ID, and Nolan Bower out of Fruitland, ID. Nielsen at 6'5" and Bower at 6'8", TVCC will have some serious height at the forward spot coming into the year.
Rounding out the guard position is 5'11" PG from Switzerland, Alessio Figlia. Figlia will give the lineup depth at the guard position as a quick, playmaking, point guard who has the ability to knock down shots when left open.
Lastly, is a pair of redshirts to round out the roster. Lincoln Johnson out of Provo, UT. Johnson is a knockdown shooter and with a season full of training will be a nice addition to the TVCC lineup the next few seasons.
Keegan Glenn is a 6'2" guard out of Pendleton, OR making his way to the Chukar roster. Glenn's hardworking nature always gives him an edge on the hardwood and with this year to grow his game, it will give him time to become an excellent 3-point shooter and take his game to the next level.
The incoming class is loaded with talent and with Coach Jansen at the helm and the quality of the roster, the upcoming season poses to be an entertaining one for TVCC.
