College of Idaho Asst. Coach Named Head of Treasure Valley's Men's Basketball Program

[Ontario, OR] - Treasure Valley Community College announced this week its new head coach of the men's basketball program, James Jansen.

Jansen takes the reigns of the Chukar men's basketball program after serving five successful seasons as an assistant coach; three at Simpson University (Redding, CA) and two at the College of Idaho. In his two seasons as an assistant at the College of Idaho, Jansen helped guide the Yotes to a 32-5 record and an Elite 8 appearance in the NAIA National Tournament. During his time at Simpson University, he assisted a program that doubled its win total in consecutive years and qualified for the Cal Pac Conference Tournament in three straight seasons.

"I am extremely excited for this opportunity and grateful for President Young and Vice President McFetridge for believing in me enough to give me the chance to turn things around," says Jansen, "I look forward to getting to work immediately and begin to build this program into a winning one."

Coach Jansen has always put an emphasis on bringing in talented student-athletes and as an assistant recruited three Freshman of the Year in their respective conferences and coached one NAIA All-American and 14 All-Conference players in his tenure.

"The Treasure Valley has a lot of really good basketball players that have driven down Hwy 84 to go play for schools much further from home than here, Jansen says, "And it is going to be a top priority for me to make TVCC their top choice when wanting to compete at the next level."

After finishing the 2021-22 season losing 17 consecutive games, Jansen brings a fresh start to the Chukar men's basketball program and looks to put his track record of building winning programs to the test.

"With the new push and emphasis on the growth of athletics and the college as a whole," Jansen says, "There is no better time to build and strengthen a program that the college and community can get behind."

Jansen begins his duties immediately and will start building a roster for the 2022-23 season.
