Vikes Take Four of Four

After taking the first two games of a four game set versus Treasure Valley Community College, the Vikes were hoping to make up some ground in a tight playoff race. 

Hayden Schooler took the bump for game one and struggled with his command but was able to hold the Chukars to just two runs over five frames while striking out five. Coach Tunstall then turned it over to the trusted freshman in James MacRae who gave up one unearned run over three innings while striking out one. The Viking offense chipped away as they have in recent games, a clutch two out bases loaded single by Zack Geertsen fueled the Viking offense, along with Jett Nelson and Kyle Belich chipping in with two hits. A one run ball game going into the bottom of the ninth in a must win game called for desperate measures. Hunter Gibson on just two days rest of a 100 pitch outing on Wednesday came in and threw a scoreless 9th to collect his first save of the season and secure the victory by a score of 4-3. 

After a tight game one, Zach Engh got the spot start and managed 3 scoreless innings while striking out four before handing it off to sophomore left handed pitcher Grant Orme. Orme cruised through 3 innings but was tagged with a two-run homerun in his fourth inning of work. Zack Geertsen took over in a 3-3 ball game in the sixth which remianed tied through 9 complete innings. The second game of the series needing extras favored the Vikes with Parker Plato hitting a two-run homerun in the top of the 10th inning to give the Vikes a 5-3 lead. Zack Geertsen headed out for his fourth inning of work and managed to slam the door collecting the save and securing a four game sweep. 

The Vikes face off versus Yakima Valley CC this Wednesday needing to win 3 of the 4 to have a shot at making the playoffs.
