Plato Pops Off

Plato Pops Off

After a series win versus Wenatchee Valley College, the Vikes hoped to ride the momentum into a crucial series versus the Treasure Valley Chukars and did just that.

The Vikes hosted TVCC on Wednesday May 3rd at Viking Field for two and handed the ball to their ace Hunter Gibson for game one. Gibson who had tossed 20 consecutive shutout innings got off to a rocky start. With the leadoff hitter getting aboard followed by two errors by Gibson, the Chukars struck for four in the first inning making it an uphill battle for the Vikes from the get go. Gibson settled in and tossed 5 innings of 5 run ball while striking out 4 before handing it off to James MacRae who threw 3 1/3 innings of 1 run ball while punching out 5. The Viking offense slowly chipped away before tying the game up 5 in the 8th inning. The Chukars struck for one in the top of the 9th, but the Vikes were able to respond with one sending this game to extras. Kai Jones who put together a 3-5 day including 2 RBI's got the Vikes rolling in the bottom of the 10th with an infield single followed by a Parker Plato triple to walk it off. Plato put together a monster game one going 3-5 with the walk off knock.

After an emotional game one, the Vikes handed th ball to the steady Brayden Weatherman who took care of business. Weatherman tossed 6 innings of shutout ball while striking out a season high 9 before handing it off to Zach Engh who followed suit and threw 3 innings of shutout baseball while striking out three. With pitching dominating, the pressure was off for the offense who did their part. Another stellar showing from the game one standouts with Parker Plato going 2-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two along with Kai Jones going 2-4 while scoring twice and driving in one leading the Vikes to a 9-0 victory to complete the sweep.
